The exciting launch of Underserved Business Month by Equitable Development Action (EDA)
is a testament of EDA’s quest for equity.This initiative is all about championing local
entrepreneurs, especially those from underserved communities, and fostering a more
inclusive economic growth in Minnesota.
The kickoff event, held April 25th, brought together a vibrant mix of attendees – financial
institutions, community service providers, government representatives, and most
importantly, passionate individuals who believe in the power of small businesses and
entrepreneurs.

Why Support Underserved Businesses?
The event highlighted the undeniable impact small businesses have on our communities.
From creating jobs to building the economy of every community, these businesses are the
backbone of a thriving economy. But for many entrepreneurs, particularly those from
underserved communities, the path to success can come with different obstacles.
The Underserved Business Month aims to bridge this gap by providing resources, fostering
collaboration, and empowering these businesses to flourish.

Insights from Leaders and Top Professionals
The event featured inspiring talks from state leaders. Representative Melissa Hortman
emphasized the importance of closing the economic opportunity gap, while Jude Nnadi, CEO
Equitable Development Action EDA, spoke about creating opportunities and accessibility
through equity and inclusion. Commissioner Trista Martinson emphasized the importance of
all these and more, highlighting Ramsey County's commitment to investing in both
workforce development and the small business ecosystem.

The event didn't just raise awareness – it ignited a call to action. We were all encouraged to
actively support small businesses in our communities. Whether it's shopping local, utilizing
